Prompting

You can prompt Datastory to do almost anything: tell it what you want to show, which data to display and how you want the chart to look. It can choose the chart type that works best with your dataset, customize the design and surface insights to help you understand what the numbers show.

Anywhere you’d use the manual settings, you can prompt as well.

When prompting, the clearer your request, the better the result. For example:

• Be specific.“Show population growth in Sweden since 1990 as a line chart” works better than “population data.”
• Name the chart type if you have one in mind.Line, bar, area chart, etc. If you don’t know which chart type you want or whether it fits with your dataset, just describe your intent (data that changes over time) and Datastory will share recommended charts.
• Build in steps.Start simple, then refine with follow-ups like “color the bars blue,” or “change the title.”
• Point to your data.If you’ve uploaded a file or picked an open data indicator, reference it directly: “use the alcohol consumption data” or “chart the column for 2024.”

You don’t need to get it right the first time. Each message refines what’s already on screen, so treat it like a conversation.
